We were trying to think of something fun to do with the kids now that summer break is upon us. We tossed around some ideas and then we remembered that strawberries were in season. What can be more fun with kids than a day out in the country picking fresh berries, and even better, eating them.
Just about an hour south of the bay area in Watsonville is our favorite U-Pick farm, Gizdich Ranch. They offer u-pick Strawberries, Olallieberries, Boysenberries, and Apples.
In addition to fruit picking, Gizdich is also well know for their delicious pies. They sell over nine varieties of pies to please even the pickiest of eaters! You can buy them by the slice or take the entire pie home to enjoy later.
The kids had a fabulous time out in the fresh air searching for that perfect strawberry. Actually, the whole day was pretty perfect. I mean, how can you beat fresh fruit straight from the field. We all had such a good time that the kids are already asking which fruit or berry is in season next. But for now, let the strawberry jam and pie making begin.
